About HBD

Helen Bingham
I was born in England and moved to the States in 1977 with my family.  When I was in high school and without intending to do so, my Dad sparked my creative side by giving me his old, silk, paisley patterned bathrobe which somehow morphed into a beautiful minidress (he clearly had an unrelenting faith in me). Shortly after playing with odd outfits, I attended Johnson & Wales University where I received my Bachelor degree in 1991.  One of the greatest gifts my Mom has given me was in 1992 when she taught me how to knit.  Since that time, creating knitted garments has been a passion of mine.  Another interest is long distance running.  One of the things I love about running is that it helps me design many of my patterns.  My legs in motion help my brain work out the drape, construction and texture details for many of my creations.  I have done freelance knitwear design for such companies as Classic Elite Yarn, Nashua, Misti International, Sheep Shop, Swarovski Crystals and Skacel.  The beauty of having this web site is that I can write the patterns in the format I believe knitters want to see.  There might be an extra page or two to print but that just means I have given extra directions on how to create the finished piece.  I work at a wonderful LYS (local yarn shop), Fresh Purls in Providence, Rhode Island (freshpurls.com) where I have the opportunity to play with yarn, help knitters of all ages and teach classes.  Stay in touch with me via Facebook as Helen Bingham Designs; via Twitter as HBinghamDesigns; via Ravelry.com as needlerunner.  My hope for you is threefold; enjoy the knitting process, share the gift of knitting, and to add your own personality to my patterns.

To create unique, stylish and original knitting designs for you and me.
